    If you are visiting Balkans at end of May and beginning of June, you should definitely take part in ancient and traditional Bulgarian activity - Rose picking. It's not as common as it seems! The Bulgarian Rose Valley is located in southern Bulgaria. Only most suitable conditions can provide highest quality rose oil in world. The rose garden is a place where you can feel real smell of Bulgarian roses.

    Rosa Damascena (Rosa Damascena) - the most famous rose in Bulgaria, grown in Rose Valley, covering 4200 acres, representing hundreds of traditional livelihoods of local people for a long time years.

    The roses grown in Bulgarian Rose Valley contain essential oils and produce world famous Bulgarian rose oil. In some years the price of Bulgarian rose oil approaches price of gold. That's why some people call it "liquid gold".

    It takes 3-3.5 tons of red or white 5-6 tons of rose oil to produce 1 kg of Bulgarian rose oil. And production process is very specific: you have to pick roses by hand in early morning with plenty of dew, and then produce them by steam distillation in Bulgaria.

    Bulgarian rose oil is used in cosmetics, medicines and aromatherapy. In addition to oil, there is also an abundance of rose water, called "golden water", which is often used in perfumery. In addition, Bulgarian rose is also rich in vitamin C and is widely used as a complete food in various countries.

    The rose picking season in Bulgaria is usually end of spring, from end of May to mid-June, and rose picking lasts about 20 days. During this period, Bulgarians also hold a Rose Festival.

    The villagers sang while picking roses, accompanying fragrance of roses, creating a wonderful atmosphere.

    Today, many people from all over world visit Rose Valley in Bulgaria as part of an ancient Bulgarian tradition.
