Bunraku originally refers to traditional Japanese art of "Ningyo Jinruri", female Naoshima Bunraku means Naoshima, a traditional Japanese puppet show run by women. Since puppet shows are usually run by men, puppet shows in Naoshima are run by women, so they are very rare in Japan.
Naoshima was an area directly controlled by shogunate during Edo period, so many folk arts flourished for a time, including puppet shows. Later, Naoshima's women's bunraku once disappeared until 1948, when three women revived this time-honored art and have been pushing for women to perform alone ever since. Because performances are held irregularly, and there are not always rehearsals, so if there is an opportunity, do not miss it.
