One of the most beautiful things that can happen during a travel is to strike up a friendship with local people. Not only because to starting new friendship relationships (even if short) is nice and gratifying, but above all because in this way we really come into contact with a culture other than ours, which can surely teach us something.
This travel philosophy has inspired enterprising people who created on-line communities able to put into contact travellers and local people through the method of sharing: I host you and you teach me something. In this way, both parties will live an experience from which they will come out enriched and gratified (and with some friends more around the world).
The aim of TalkTalkBnb is just this:
to put into contact thousands of people throughout the world in order to travel and to encourage cultural exchanges through hospitality in return for language teaching.
This platform arose from two simple considerations: the first one is that learning languages is useful, nice and nowadays indispensable, the second one is that the best way to do it is practising them.
It is an alternative to classical accommodations and involves people who are curious about encountering new cultures and learning their language. It has various advantages, both for the traveller and for his/her host, because for the first one it means to be welcomed as a family member, with free meals and accommodation, for the second one it means to have the opportunity to learn and practise a language in a funny, effective and informal way.
TalkTalkBnb is completely free both for the traveller and for his/her host and it is easy to use, you sign up in two minutes by creating a personal account and your profile (the more detailed it is the more likely others will contact you and will trust in you) and you start. There is no limit of age or social status. Families, singles, flat mates and elderly persons are welcome, so that everybody could have the chance to live this experience.
A really useful function of the platform is the “Women Only” icon devoted to women. It is an option that you can activate from your account and that will make appear in your profile an icon indicating that you are available to host and to be hosted only by other women and all the website users will be aware of it. This function has been requested by some women users who felt themselves more at ease to be contacted by women users rather than men, above all during their first travel and hospitality experiences. Once you get familiar with the platform, and after your first experiences, anyway and in any case you may deactivate this function.
Women Only is one of the functions that puts in the foreground travellers’ and hosts’ security. TalkTalkBnb has devoted an entire section to recommendations for a safe travel in order to live a positive and gratifying experience. We often give some of these recommendations as well and they are always valid each time you rely on people you do not know: read carefully users’ profiles, contact them through the platform for information traceability, be reliable, provide correct information on arrival and departure dates, talk as much as possible to the person who will host you and, if a certain situation makes you feel uncomfortable or is different from your agreements, greet, go away and contact TalkTalkBnb team. They will take note of your problems and, if you ask, they will help you find other people available to host you.
This way of travelling definitively tears down the borders among peoples and finally puts them all at the same level.
It opens your mind and gives the chance to embrace “diversity” and to consider it an opportunity rather than an obstacle.
