I am sharing how my family reacted when i got back to India after my 14 months long solo trip around the world, almost penniless, to 10 Countries.
Something very important happened last year. I got back to Mumbai, after 14months, from my low budget, almost penniless, trip. My whole family came to welcome me back at the airport. I already knew that something surprising was about to happen but I thought it would just be a dinner party with my family. But…boom! It was actually a huge welcoming party in a banquet hall and i was not aware.
I was loaded with minimalist thoughts in many ways and for almost 14 months i traveled like a wild person. I lived a complete different life for 14 months and then I got this big shock, fancy party, lots of people and too much expenses…all of this for me.
What my family did, they didn’t planned just a party. They hosted the whole event.
They called my old friends so I got the chance to reconnect with them after a long time!
Jeenal, my sister, made lots of efforts. She collected my journey in a video and in photos from my website and my Facebook page to make meaningful presentations so my whole family could understand what and how my journey was all about.
They setup the Q&A session with me where I could share my memories and what motivated me to do this solo trip around the world. They also managed to get videos and testimonials from those whom I met in my journey. It really surprised me because I know how difficult it was to get them.
Through all of this, the best thing that happened was that curiosities and doubts were cleared in my family members’s mind about how a single woman can stay away from her family and manage to leave alone with strangers, traveling almost penniless, which would have been impossible without the people I met.
It was a mixed feeling of shock and pride that lead my family to call so many of my old friends and relatives with whom I got disconnected in the past because of silly reasons.
I believe many people should be able to know how it means having alternative way of traveling, living, consuming ideas and off grid life style.
I’m a female solo traveler because I love my freedom and cherishing my own way by travelling
I am thankful for all of them, because some of my family members flew from other state to meet me and understand my journey.
