Your period could arrive on time in the less right moments and having your period when you are on holiday or when you travel is very annoying. The good news is that there are several tricks to take into consideration before starting to organize your travel, which will allow you to ease the problem.
To prepare oneself for travelling:
I advise you to download an app to monitor your period. I use Maya. There is a calendar where you can record the start and the end dates, so that you can be informed of when your next period is likely to arrive.
If you know the date of arrival of your period and usually you feel pains, then it will be better to prepare stocks of painkillers and keep them always at hand in your bag.
On the contrary, if your period is irregular, it is always better you leave equipped, above all considering that often a travel causes us stress and various upsets.
Put into your suitcase cotton panties, so that perspiration cannot cause allergies or irritations, internal or external tampons, panty liners or the menstrual cup.
I advise you to wear comfortable clothing, such as a pair of soft leggings and a long jumper that does not constrict your belly.

Painkillers in case of period:
If during your period you often feel pains, prepare stocks of ibuprofen or aspirin. They will be of use to fight against cramps. If you are going abroad, bear in mind that in certain Countries it is not possible to buy over-the-counter painkillers. So according to the length of your travel, it will be better to consider bringing some pills more with you.
Fortunately, I do not suffer from period pains, but the few times it happened to me to feel them while travelling, I sat at a bar, I ordered a hot tea or a camomile tea and I stayed there reading for an hour waiting for the pain to go away. Remember that hot beverages are particularly recommended in these cases.
During the travel:
Remember to change your tampon, either internal or external, every two hours and to use products made of non-allergenic and biodegradable materials.
If you travel by plane, my advice is to sit in an aisle seat in order to reach the toilet more easily. This is useful above all if the flight lasts more than a few hours.
Travel kit in case of period:
- night and day tampons;
- perfumed napkins to temporarily remedy the lack of a bidet;
- handkerchiefs (when you have your period, you are more subject to viruses, so it is preferable not to use the toilet paper);
- sanitizing gel whereby disinfect your hands before changing your tampon and at the end of this operation;
- a pair of change panties in the case that you got stained.
Do not abuse of internal tampons since , if they are not changed regularly, the blood gathers inside the vaginal cavity and creates an environment favourable to the growth of bacteria.
If you have an abundant flow and fear you can stain sheets and mattress, bring a microfiber towel with you.
Hydrate you often, above all if you are in a hot place. Women are recommended to drink up to 2.2 litres of water per day.
Avoid exposing yourself to the sun during the hottest hours because heat may cause an increase in the flow and weakness conditions.

Furthermore, do not forget to crunch something sweet or a bit of chocolate. They will raise your spirits for sure.
The menstrual cup:
I admit I have never used it, but all the women who use it do nothing but extolling its advantages, above all those who find themselves to face their period during a travel.
Given that it is internal, it is not as annoying as a tampon, so it is excellent for those who like doing long walks and, last but not least, occupies less space in your suitcase. No packs of night and day tampons.
It is sufficient to sterilize it before leaving. It guarantees a long autonomy. You insert it in the morning and you can empty it in the evening. It is sufficient to rinse it out with a bit of water or an appropriate napkin.
